Familial Tribulations in ‘Rachel Getting Married’
Anne Hathaway stars in the new Jonathan Demme film, Rachel Getting Married. She plays the title character Rachel’s sister, Kym. The film also stars Debra Winger, Rosemarie Dewitt, and the singer of TV on the Radio, Tunde Adebimpe (Jump Tomorrow).
Kym is the proverbial black sheep, her struggles with substance abuse and rehab clinics is apparently made her the family pariah. Thus, Kym’s sudden appearance at Rachel’s wedding doesn’t go over so well. Jenny Lumet wrote the screenplay for this careful study of family relationships and how it’s difficult to forgive people for their past. There’s already talk of Oscar nominations for Anne Hathaway since the film premiered at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival).
Rachel Getting Married opens October 3rd (tomorrow) in NY/LA.
