Digital Photo Booth

In bars, to my surprise, I’ve been seeing photo booths. Some booths are digital while others are classic, black & white ones that spit out that strip. It makes me think of Amelie. Especially the scenes when she is trying to track down the boy who collects photo booth picture pieces. It’s like one of those get-ups. They’re really making a comeback. I wonder how much money they are bringing in with these booths. With a little liquor, taking a photo in a booth seems like a really good idea. It’s fun sometimes when you try and fit like 3 or 4 people into the tiny space. Or since Valentine’s Day is upon us, it could be a sweet moment for two lovebirds.

With the price of digital video falling, they could start installing video booths. You can enter a booth and make a 1-2 minute digital video. A vendor could buy a few discount camcorders and set them up inside a photo booth structure. Then, the user can get a little dvd disc of their moment. Some people are renting them for parties so people can send a video message to the guest of honor.

Only thing is video booths will require more maintenance than a cheap photo booth. With a photo booth, you just wipe it down and re-fill the paper and chemicals. For a video kiosk, you would have to re-charge the camcorder constantly. If you rigged up the video booth with one of those discount sony camcorders, then you’d have to hook-up a sony camcorder battery charger to ensure the booth will be juiced up for all those uses. With the rented ones, they come and bring it in and take it away. No hassle for the party planner. They do all the work. I think we’ll be seeing some bars giving it a test run in the near future. It’s been very popular in the UK already for certain businesses.
