Digital Camcorder Redux

No more tapes

/
Have you ever been filming something and run out of tape? It sucks. I feel like you go through them like water. It totally breaks your momentum. You are forced to stop, give your actors a break. Then, dig in your bag for that elusive DV mini tape.

Well, if you wanna just keep shooting or save money on tapes, you might wanna try one of these jvc hard disk camcorders. You can record for up 37 hours with some models.

I admit that I do hate purchasing those tapes and the constant loading. With this internal memory type of camcorder all you need is a usb cord. Then, you can transfer your data (i.e. movie) to a computer. If you’re going to edit on a computer anyway, it just saves you time. Only thing is you don’t have an instant back-up of your movie, no tape recording. I guess if you wanted a back-up, you can just burn it to dvd or whatever method you prefer. I dunno if I’m trusting enough for this type of camcorder. I do like the idea of just using my tape as a backup. It’s like the original to me.

Stills from Warhol's Empire
A hard disk camcorder is great for those who want to make the next Empire. You just set up a camcorder and let it go. It could go way past the record making 9 hours of Warhol’s film!
