Digital Camcorder Redux

Stupid Dog Tricks

America's Funniest home Videos
Remember when “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was on all the time? VHS camcorders were such a novelty then. Any Joe Schmo could tape their dog doing something stupid, and it could wind up on tv. It was a thrill to see your own home movie on tv. It seems so outdated now with the flourishing of so many other reality tv shows like “American Idol”.

When I was in elementary school, my dog would always sit on top of the dog house. Y’know, kinda how Snoopy does on in the Peanuts cartoon. My mom thought it was the craziest thing. He just loved it up there. One day, he was howling at some kid on the other side of the fence. And he sort of slid off the thing. It was pretty comical, and my mom thought about taping him for the show. The show was in the public consciousness so much that this was not an unusual idea for common people to have.

Today, if you sent in tapes of your stupid dog trips, they send it back “return to sender”. That’s not a novelty any longer when anyone can have a samsung camcorder. The idea of a personal video camera isn’t as special as it was in the early 90s. Recording daily life isn’t as exciting as it used be. Not when you can have ABC tape a “Wife Swap” or have people be locked up in a house on “Big Brother”. The industry has definitely cornered the market on real-life, comedic subjects. It’s gonna take more creativity than a dog trick for your video to be broadcast.
