Digital Camcorder Redux

The Haggler

Discount Camera
Some people never accept prices just as they are. When they go shopping, they try to haggle with the salesperson for a lower price. I’m more of a patient shopper who simply waits for items to go on sale. I keep an eye out for when certain retailers put their camcorders on sale. Or sometimes I go to outlet malls or discount stores. I’m not into arguing with the salesperson over a tiny scratch and looking to get a great price in exchange. But some people see it as a sport to get a clerk to give him/her a better deal.

I feel like with internet shopping, price haggling is more difficult to do. Maybe on ebay, they can get the negotiating action by bidding on an item. In end, I feel like you end up spending more with online auctions. Instead of arguing with someone over prices, a person can surf the web for the lowest price. No asking for a deal under the table. Now, you can browse prices on thousands of items at your own pace. No pressure from other shoppers or bidders who want the same product.

But some people live for it. They’re on the move, out looking for that great deal on that one-of-kind item. They feel a rush knowing they got somebody lowered a price just for them. They’re sort of a narcissistic shopper. They want things to be on sale, but only for them. I’d rather just get the item for a good price. It doesn’t have to be an extraordinary deal, just as long as I know I’m not getting ripped off.

Sometimes though, I use the web to ensure that I’m not missing out on a good price before buying an item. Like with dvds, they’ll be on special sales in Best Buy or Target. I’ll go for their sale sometimes, but in the back of mind, I’m wondering if it’s the same price on Amazon or Deep Discount DVD. In this way, I see where the haggler is coming from. But I’m never one to demand a discount, I like to just keep my ear to the ground for special deals. I know I’ll find a camcorder at a reasonable price. But when I buy it, I hope that it’s the best price around.
