Wachowski ‘Racer

It seems the Wachowski brothers, responsible for The Matrix trilogy, are going to start shooting a live action version of “Speed Racer”. And John Goodman & Susan Sarandon are set to star as Speed’s parents according to Pajiba. But wait for it, Emile Hirsch is on tap to play the title role! I thought we learned that Emile isn’t leading man material. Didn’t anyone see The Girl Next Door? Timothy Olyphant is the best thing in that movie and he plays a theif/pimp! I’m just imagining this scenario as something cooked up on “Entourage” or something. Not anything that’s actually happening.

Pajiba also has buzz that Stephen King’s Christine will be remade as well. I would be curious to see a student film remake with a crappy Sony minidv camera. Not some glitzy Hollywood update possibly directed by Eli Roth or some other hack. At least a student would have respect for the genre. Plus he/she would be very limited and thus the effects would be hilariously cheap.

That story & film is pure camp and they should stay that way. I liked the “Futurama” parody with the whole WereCar, but that’s as far as I’ll let it go. Animation can muck with cult movies and stories. There’s no need for full-blown remakes really.
