Shia’s on top, Grindhouse falls

Shia in 'Constantine'
I was suprised to see that Disturbia was the number one movie this weekend. And it made 23 million! That’s pretty crazy for a rip-off of Rear Window. I saw the trailer a few months back and was almost into it. But then I saw the title and it just lost me. It makes me think of some stupid cross between Disturbing Behavior and Suburbia, just trying too hard. Nevertheless, tons of people must have been seduced by the charisma of Shia LaBeouf. I can’t believe the kid in Holes has such star power.

And Grindhouse dropped sharply to 10th place. I guess they do need to re-release the movies separately. I just don’t think anyone has the time to watch two movies at once. I really dig horror and those directors, so I made time. Joe Schmo would rather shop online for dvd home theater systems than go to the movie theater. Home entertainment is really starting to rival the movie experience. The technology is certainly advancing enough. Plus, dvd releases are just around the corner. I feel like only oscar nominated films take forever to come out on dvd. Everything else is out in a flash.

Another reason might be is it’s hard to make it to that 7:30 showing during the weekdays. You have to go earlier for such a long flick so you won’t be too tired to go to work the next day. I just don’t think people are gonna sacrifice sleep for Tarantino. At least, a majority of the American population. If you do have the time though, I think it’s definitely an experience to be remembered. You can’t really replicate the grindhouse theater concept in your living room.
