Celestially Yours, Ronald Chevalier

Forgetting Sarah Marshall had the fake I Hate SarahMarshall blog, so Gentlemen Broncos, the new movie by the director of Napoleon Dynamite, had to step it up a notch. Instead of a blog, they created an entire fake site for fantasy novelist, Dr. Ronald Chevalier, replete with a biography, news feed, video camera interviews, and photo gallery.

Gentlemen Broncos is about a geeky teen who attends a fantasy novel convention and learns that Ronald Chevalier (Jermaine Clement of “Flight of the Conchords”) has stolen his book idea! Thus, hilarity ensues sorta in the vein of Rushmore with an less than moral adult competing with a formidable and intelligent teenager.

I Watch Stuff lovingly compared the film’s faux website to “Garth Marengi’s Darkplace” (which is awesome too btw), since that tv show really went for the absurd to poke fun at the science fiction/horror genre. I think IWS may have hit the nail on the head.
