Hitchcock Homage
My favorite director is Alfred Hitchcock, largely because of his amazing ability to play to our most basic fears through everyday elements. Although decades have passed, Hitchcock movies still hit home runs. And, this time of year, Halloween, is the best time of all to dust off the favorites.
Remember The Birds? That movie still gives me the creeps, but you’ve gotta love how Hitchcock transforms typical backyard birds into terrifying, evil creatures. Leading lady Tippi Hedren was discovered by Hitchcock when he saw her in a commercial while watching the Today Show.
And, what about Vertigo? My toes still tingle when James Stewart faces his lofty fears. Already unforgettable, this psychological thriller can be absolutely paralyzing for those with a true fear of heights.
Although Vertigo and The Birds are definitely at the top of my list, I also have to pay my respects to Psycho and Spellbound.
