Quantum of Solace: 007 with a vengeance

Daniel Craig reprises his role as James Bond for Quantum of Solace. It seems to me that Mr. Bond has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Color him scorned after the drowning of his would-be lover/betrayer, Vesper.

Trailer Check:

Well it didn’t take him long to russle up a new feisty female companion with Camille (Olga Kurylenko). Hopefully, Haggis won’t deluge the script with another cheesy romance this time around. No frolicking on beaches or so help me I will walk out of that theater (like I should have done when I saw Casino Royale).

I’m fine with Bond drinking martinis, shooting guns, blowing stuff up and getting lucky with the ladies. Just don’t try and place every girl on a pedestal and portray her as a potential “Mrs. Bond”. George Lazenby and Diana Rigg covered that bit in “His Majesty’s Secret Service” and we all know how that ended. It’s not 007’s fault really. Death simply is part of the spy game. I think he should really have a warning sign to all the women he meets to beware.

Terminator Salvation: The End Begins

The Terminator Salvation trailer is finally available online (you can also see it before The Dark Knight).

It looks pretty darn good, considering that they have just begun shooting. It’s just that tagline, “The End Begins”. It has got to go. I get why they used it, but it’s seriously a total oxymoron. It makes the movie sound overly simplistic. But I suppose that’s what taglines and trailers go for: the lowest common denominator.

All that is irrelevant tho. Because if Christian Bale is in it, I’ll be there front and center (as I’m sure many people agree).

Christian Bale

Here’s hoping the world doesn’t tire of the Terminator mythology before “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” returns to television this fall and this movie hits theaters.

Outlander

Jim Caviezel is back on the scene with the action adventure, Outlander. as crash-landing alien (aka Outlander) who teams up with vikings (!) to battle an alien monster called Moorwen.

Trailer Check:

After the disappointment of AVP 2, I’m not sure if I’m ready for another alien flick, even if it’s depicted during the times of the Vikings.

DVD Release of the Week: Jumper

I had the luck (or was it misfortune) to see Jumper last week on my airplane ride home. It wasn’t terrible by any means. The plot fascinated me for the first 45 minutes as the movie exposes how Hayden Christensen’s character discovers his spatial defying power.

But then came Rachel Bilson riding up with that mediocre love story in her pocket. And that’s right about the time I fell asleep. She gets kidnapped yadda yadda by evil, so he must save the day. I woke up just in time for Samuel L. to receive his comeuppance.

It was a short and sweet story that didn’t really blow anyone’s minds. They didn’t really explain where his power came. But the effects helped the director (Doug Liman) build a moderate amount of suspense. At the very least, I was rooting for the main character to come out on top.

A nice airplane or trapped in a confined spaced action movie to rock you to sleep. Overall, grade B-, strictly rental. If your a Hayden completist, buy it for no more than $5.99.
