Digital Camcorder Redux

Watchmen

The trailer for Watchmen hit the interwebs this week. You can find it on Trailer Addict.

Watchmen comic

I dunno, Zach Snyder has been a little hit or miss with me. I loved Dawn of the Dead, but hated 300. I love that he brought tension to DotD without making it a gorefest. But with 300, it was meandering and ultimately pointless. The slo-mo effect was cool at first, but it grew old on me very fast.

Nevertheless, I’m a quite intrigued by this trailer (altho, wasn’t the body exploding motif kinda repetitve?), since I am not familiar with the Watchmen graphic novel. This movie has been in production for over a year, so I’m thinking it’s all gonna be down to the effects. And since I’m sure they’re using something a bit more high tech than a sony hd camcorder, I’m sure the long wait is justified. And at least, Snyder has been releasing some nice tidbits on his video journals.

Watchmen arrives in theaters on March 6, 2009.

Hellboy II: As good as Khan?

Scene from 'Hellboy 2'

“And Hellboy II is exactly that: truly brilliant. Whatever your thoughts about the original (some love it, some like it, some are decidedly cool about it), this is light years ahead. This is Wrath Of Khan to its Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It’s that much of an evolution. It’s that good. ”

No way! That’s just crazy talk. I wanna believe Empire Magazine, I really do. But you can’t just throw out a ‘Wrath Khan’ comparison lightly, man? But y’know, if they’re letting Guillermo Del Toro do The Hobbit movies, maybe it is that good.

The trailer did get me quite excited when I saw it before The Incredible Hulk. The Mummy 3 trailer really made me lose faith in all movies, so watching Hellboy do his thing sorta brought me back from the edge. =) It gave me hope that Hollywood can actually make a movie with wild special f/x and CGI AND an intelligent plot.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army hits theaters on July 11th.

Iron Man: Critic proof?

Whispers on the internet from foreigners (lucky enough to see it early) say Iron Man doesn’t actually suck. As long as it’s not as bad as Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, I’ll be okay.

Hopefully Robert Downey Jr’s charisma renders the flick virtually critic proof. Most comic book based movies haven’t turned out so well, so I’m not 100% convinced by this internet buzz. Usually, these movies (and rumors) are just fan boy fodder and at best turn out to be guilty pleasure action movies. If Iron Man does well, it may break the comic book curse.

Iron Man cast

Guess that would be great news from Marvel who plan to release tons of comic book movies in the future.

Earlier: Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jr.
