The Mummy 3: Chinese Mummies

Brendan Fraser is back on board for the third Mummy flick despite the absence of Rachel Weisz, who played Evie in the previous two films. I cannot believe it’s been seven years since the last one. At least you can’t say they rushed into anything.

Still, at first glance, the idea of a mummy tale set in China is a bit of a stretch. Have no idea what I’m referring to? Then, you need to watch the trailer below and see these Chinese mummies for yourself.

Trailer Check:

See? Crazy, right? There’s so much going on in that trailer. I know you have to get creative sometimes, but this premise is something I’d expect from the creators of WarBirds or some other SciFi Channel production. Michelle Yeoh conjures up some ancient army of Chinese zombies that have just hanging out under the Great Wall of China. Then you got Jet Li’s dragon emperor riding that red-eyed horse everywhere. Not to mention, adventurer/mummy killer Rick O’Connell is now supposed to have a grown up son (all while merely aging only thirteen years since the last movie)!

Rick & Alex O'Connell

But who am I kidding? I’m totally gonna see it like the sucker that I am, since I’ve seen the first movie like 5000 times (Don’t ask why.). Obviously, I’m not gonna have my expectations up too high. Like Fraser said during his TCA interview: “Folks, it’s a movie. Relax.” I’m gonna just watch and see what happens.

Punisher: War Zone

Lexi Alexander (director of Green Street Hooligans) is finally back on the scene with Punisher: War Zone. Maybe the director will bring an interesting feminine edge to all those violent action scenes.

‘Wanted’ Again?

Wanted isn’t due out until next Friday, but that hasn’t stopped Universal from inking a sequel according to First Showing!

Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy in 'Wanted'

Granted, I’m all for more gunfighting action from James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie. But doesn’t this seem a bit soon? They don’t even know if it’ll make its budget back yet. But it is based on a graphic novel, so I guess they hope it follows the 300 box office path.

Is Hollywood really this obsessed with sequels? Perhaps, the sequel madness is contagious. I did just read about the sequel to District B13 and The Descent.

T6: Terminator Trilogy x 2

Seriously? There are going to be three more ‘Terminator’ films with Christian Bale?

Terminator

I’m already skeptical about Terminator 4, so I think it’s quite presumptious of them to start another trilogy. T3 wasn’t all that highly regard nor has the tv show really taken off.

Hasn’t Hollywood learned anything from the Star Wars prequels? Oversaturation is imminent and will eventually damage your profits.

A Fierce AVP Letdown

I finally watched AVP 2: Requiem last night and was sorely disappointed. The first AVP is waaaaaay better.

My main problem is that it was boring!!! Why would I want to watch the Predator get all CSI up in the spacecraft of his dead comrade? They go so far as him re-living the last moments of the dead Predator, grasping for clues. Predator doesn’t need to be logical, he’s a natural tracker. He can find the aliens and shoot ‘em up in his sleep.

AVP 2

All they had to do is keep the plot simple and lean. But no, they had to mix in some “7th Heaven” style family melodrama with a war vet mom returning from Iraq to reconnect with her daughter and some stupid teenage love triangle that wouldn’t hold up on “Dawson’s Creek”. Don’t care about the characters, especially if most of them are gonna die.

The key thing to good horror and sci-fi is to keep it simple and to the point. Alien and Predator battling it out. End of story.

I should have listened to FourFour’s advice and skipped it and just settled for watching his “fierce” Alien vs. Predator 2 montage.
