Clint Eastwood’s Changeling
Pajiba posted the trailer today for Clint Eastwood’s newest Oscar bait film, Changeling. It stars a 1920-fied Angelina Jolie as a mother who loses her son and is given back an impostor child by the LAPD.
While it is always nice to see Jeffrey Donovan getting work, I’m not very excited for this historical drama. Angelina Jolie’s performance seems a bit too anachronistic. Maybe it’s the bad wig? I know Eastwood isn’t really going for historical accuracy, if I wanted that I’d tune in for one of those A&E specials about true crime. You know the ones I’m talking about, where they use re-enactments made with low budget Canon camcorders. And then they crosscut those segments with interviews from supposed experts or the great grand cousin of the victim. I wonder if there’s already one of these in the works about the real Chrisine Collins? If not, I’ve got a documentary pitch to develop this weekend!

DVD Pick of the Week: Then She Found Me
I missed Helen Hunt’s directorial debut, Then She Found Me, when it hit theaters, so now is my chance to catch it on DVD.
Trailer Check:
The situation may be a bit sad and uncomfortable, but I wanna see who the baby’s father really turns out to be in the end (Colin Firth or Matthew Broderick). It seems that Matthew Broderick has cornered the market on portraying pathetic older men plagued with mid-life crises (see: Election or You Can Count on Me). But if it ain’t broke, why fix it? His performance alone has to make this movie worth renting. And let’s not forget that there’s always Bette Midler for comic relief when the story gets too depressing.
Rent or buy Then She Found Me, so you can at the very least support indie cinema and/or Helen Hunt.

He’s a RocknRolla
I think Guy Ritchie may have found his mojo again with RocknRolla. He wisely has re-embraced the British ganster film genre (that Revolver fiasco so doesn’t count!), which he so deftly portrayed in Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The ensemble cast this time around has Tom Wilkinson as the big boss, Jeremy Piven and Ludacris as some amateurs, Thandie Newton as the cold-hearted fence, and Gerard Butler as a boxer caught in the middle.
Trailer Check:
And turns out today, that the film has an awesome opening sequence created by Danny Yount. Apparently, Yount is the mastermind behind several title sequences I enjoy, including the sequence for “Six Feet Under”.
RocknRolla opens in NY/LA/London on October 8th and worldwide on October 31st.

Death Race 2008
The new Death Race definitely has an asinine premise much like the original Death Race 2000 with Sylvester Stallone. Nevertheless, I’ll watch it because I’ll pay money to see Jason Statham “act”, run, kick, and jump in just about anything.
It looks like a cross between The Running Man (the run for your freedom or die trying bit), Escape from Alcatraz (the prison bit), and 2 Fast 2 Furious (The Tyrese and car racing bit)!
Trailer Check:
Besides having Jason on point, the filmmakers throw in a little evil Joan Allen, Tyrese, non-descript hot girl, and Ian McShane (HBO’s “Deadwood”). I predict that by the end of the film, Joan Allen’s character will have her plans foiled when the wrongfully imprisoned Jason Statham character wins the “race”. The rest of Death Race will be filled with nonsensical action sequences and bad one-liners. Hopefully, it’ll at least be as entertaining as Transporter 2. I’m not really asking for much.

Tom Riddle aka Damien
Check out a young Tom Riddle (the future wizard, Voldemort) in the trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince:
I don’t know where they found that kid, but he appropriately creeped me out. I wonder if performed the scene straight by just reading the script and source material. Or did the filmmakers subject him to repeat viewings of The Omen (maybe in that Clockwork Orange brainwashing chair set up?), so he morph into this Damien-esque portrayal of Voldemort?
